“There is no better designer than nature.” – Alexander McQueen
Its time to dig deeper into the wild and express our dark side on this platform – the side that lurks underneath the pastel colors and bubblegum smiles that has a deep gothic, primal sensibility. Fashion has the ability to enchant its audience through visual magic, and today we turn to the animalistic landscape of Black Sands Beach to create images that are both raw and sophisticated. This is the story of our connection to nature as we morph into creatures of the deep seas and envision ourselves as warrior-mermaids and protectors of the ocean.
‘Human’ is only something abstract that exists in context of the Earth, and it is sad that as modern humans we have forgotten how glorious the fresh air can be, how beautiful the landscapes are, and how the natural world holds so much power and knowledge beyond our control. The more you move away from civilized humanity, the wilder your inner nature becomes. When we took a wrong turn off of the Marin Headlands and discovered Black Sands Beach we felt like Jack Sparrow discovering a private island – completely fulfilling our aesthetic senses and internal urges for becoming less civilized and more empowered. Black Sands Beach provided the perfect setting to explore the edges of our own subconsciouses, using intuition as a guide.
Unearthly and mysterious, we captured ourselves as subjects in ethereally beautiful mermaid-warrior like state, which invites you into a place that blurring the lines of reality and mythology. Wearing flowing silk and gossamer fabric, we plunged into the mythical depths of our Atlantis to draw inspiration from the textures and shapes of rocky structures, colorful seaweed and the feeling of empowerment the ocean ignites within us. Valentina embodied a gothic sorceress wearing a fluid maxi dress by Nasty Gal while Francesca embraced an earthly mermaid look in mother of pearl meets seafoam green silk H&M cocktail dress.
