Are you are itching to get out of your sterile, overly air-conditioned cubicle to explore the lush and vast beauty of Mother Earth? Summer is ablaze and our Northern Californian environment is blooming with color under the heat of the sun. All we can dream about is swimming in cerulean waters off secret tropical islands and enjoying the myriad of simple pleasures life has to offer. Although we would love to jet set off to Capri, the Maldives and Hawaii, we currently are too busy to take an exotic summer vacation. Luckily we live in paradise on earth, and are embracing the fabulous idea of repeated staycations. You can look forward to personal tours of our favorite staycation spots – coming to V&F throughout the summer, from Sausalito to Big Sur!
Slipping into colorful threads we headed to our favorite Bay Area hidden treasure – the Pulgas Water Temple. There is nothing like this cool oasis that references ancient themes and architecture on a hot summer day! It was erected by the San Francisco Water Department to commemorate the 1934 completion of the Hetch Hetchy Aqueduct and is located at the aqueduct’s terminus. The water temple consists of fluted columns arranged in a circle, upon which a large stone masonry ring with the words “I give waters in the wilderness and rivers in the desert, to give drink to my people ” [from Isaiah 43:20] are inscribed. Our mood was luxe, feminine and European, with a hankering for cool water, Ancient Rome, slip-on sandals and picnics!
Francesca on upping your summer x-factor with Spanish old world glamour:
Summer reminds me of Spanish culture and Spanish beauties like Penelope Cruz and Selma Hayak. Playing with flamenco ruffles, off-the-shoulder necklines, bold colors and silhouettes transports me to the Moorish citadel Alhambra or the Castillo de Olite. I think you cannot have enough color for summer – it lightens and brightens your mood and reflects the intensity of the weather. I love choices that are playful and have an element of Goddess sensuality. Red is my favorite color for its power and intensity, and I loved the off the shoulder feminine touch that adds a spark of desire and sex appeal without being too obvious. I obviously enjoy the interplay of purity and provocation stokes desire.
Valentina on dressing like an Italian candy bombshell:
Dressing in the summer is always my favorite exercise. The sunshine and warmth bring out my desire to pick and chose friendly colors which smoothly accompany each other, creating smart and eye-catching day and night looks. This time I was inspired by the Italian Riviera and the exotic memories from trips to places like Portofino and Sorrento, recreating a magical cinematic set for myself, satisfying my inner thirst for travel, while floating with effortless elegance.
