Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?” —Derek Zoolander
Derek is BACK and hotter than ever, bringing every major force of fashion from Maison Valentino to Vogue to Cara Delevingne into theaters February 12th through the comical comeback Zoolander 2. There’s a seductive new femme fatale: Valentina Valencia, a motorcycle-riding Interpol special agent—fashion division—played by the one and only Penélope Cruz. Follow him on his dynamic Instagram page @Zoolander!
We adore Stiller’s depiction of Derek Zoolander- he is both charming and satirical, making audiences laugh while underlying Americans’ obsession with popular culture that never stops taking it self seriously. As “fashion bloggers”, we have an even better time relating to the hilarious narcissism of Derek because obviously anyone with a blog must have some Zoolander within.
We decided to embrace our inner Zoolander and create a dynamic menswear inspired post that embodies all the drama, glamor and over the top everything of Derek’s personas. We ended up laughing at ourselves most of this shoot, trying desperately to portray our very best versions of “Blue Steel”, and ended up spending 90% of the time bent over giggling and 10% creating more wrinkles from bizarre forehead expressions.
We want to hear from you in the comments below – do you have an inner Zoolander?
Vogue: What is your favorite look Derek?
Francesca was inspired by Derek’s classic sleek male model on duty style. Zoolander often wears blazers paired with leather pants for his daily uniform, and she borrowed these elements pairing a beautiful Armani blazer with a sexy leather mini skirt. Borrowing from elements of menswear can be super fun, and with Francesca’s dark hair and brows she easily transformed into an outfit that would also be perfect for Penelope Cruz’s character Valentina Valencia.
Although Valentina has a long way to go before mastering Zoolander’s Blue Steel power look, she can still channel his energy through the choice of power-dressing. Here she pairs a bedazzled, champagne-sparkle top, with a menswear-inspired blazer jacket. Her inner supermodel even dared to play with a new head piece, making this look “too cool for school”.
Derek: “Looks are like children, you always have a favorite. Right now my favorite is called Bitcoin. Its completely virtual but very valuable. I don’t completely understand it myself.”
“I think about Derek every time I design a collection.” – Tom Ford
