Have you been contemplating your New Year’s Resolutions? We have been taking the last week to check in and re-evaluate how to approach and welcome 2016. As we reflect on our experiences during 2015, we realized we are so grateful to have loyal readers like yourself and to have collaborated with renowned fashion brands like Valentino and Marni. We are beyond ecstatic to see what’s in store for 2016, and hope that you will find some inspiration in this post for new ways of tackling life with joie de vivre this coming year.
Continue doing what you love with even more drive!
New Year’s resolutions are all about new goals, and as much as we are excited for new beginnings and projects, we are also looking forward to continuing with our lifelong passions. Running this fashion blog has been one of the most fulfilling and exciting things which happened to us this past year and we are more than determined to continue growing it. We try to make the process fun, so the process of seeing the blog blossom into a bigger and better platform of inspiration for others is a wonderful motivation.
Make sure to ignore the naysayers
Fall in love with other interests and hobbies
We all know how busy work and everyday responsibilities can be. This coming year we will be making sure to give the deserved and rewarding time to exploring new interests that keep the brain active! It could be as simple as Valentina’s goal to get back to reading more fiction and getting lost in unimaginable, lyrically-painted narratives. Or her physical goal of beginning training for the marathon she’s been dreaming of completing. Francesca hopes to further explore her obsession with people, relationships, and the Myers Briggs personality system through a class. Whatever floats your boat, keep learning and challenging your self in your free time to become a more interesting, dynamic and fulfilled person!
Liberate yourself by not taking everything so personally
It’s so easy to get caught up in our feelings, our ideas, and our expectations. The holiday time can be especially tricky, when everyone we love is caught up in how they envision things should be. In 2016 we are actively taking steps to remind ourselves that other people are most likely battling their own demons and we should not be as sensitive or reactive to their behavior. It might feel personal, but it isn’t. Giving ourselves the time to reflect and realize that everyone has their own path and most of their actions are not a personal attack is like a breath of fresh air. It can really feel amazingly liberating to look at things from a different perspective!
Practice being an adult more often
Many of you are most likely very capable adults, who love completing mundane tasks that seem to pile up with the responsibilities of life. We haven’t reached that stage yet! Valentina remembers being 10 or 11 years old and being impatient, and so excited for the adult life of which she saw glimpses around her. Of course being an actual adult isn’t always the rosy picture she envisioned when she was a child. We definitely pride ourselves on keeping the child in us alive, and don’t have any plans letting that essential part of us disappear. But we all know there are dreary things we sometimes need to keep up with in order to maintain a comfortable lifestyle. So whether it’s doing your taxes on time, or booking that boring car check-up appointment – this year we will be tackling those “adult” tasks by focusing on the sweet, sweet satisfaction which follows when such tasks are completed.
Keep those positive relationships growing
“You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.” – Jim RohnIf 2015 has taught us anything, it is having a close network of people is vital to your spirit! Who you spend time with influences the person you eventually become, so it is wonderful when these people are confident champions who are helping you become the best version of you. If you hang out with a group of successful, positive-minded individuals who believe in taking responsibility for their lives, you will move to become a proactive individual who shapes his/her future. If you are entrenching yourself in relationships which are not elevating you or bringing you forward, you are not really helping yourself or anybody else since you are not being the best you can be and subsequently, not being the best you can be to them.
What are your resolutions for 2016? What positive changes are you looking forward to making this year? Any tips for how to stick to your goals?
Francesca is expressing a jazzy sense of fun through her love of mixing fun textures and contrasting high and low fashion. She mixed this flirty cocktail dress (inspired by Catherine Zeta Jones’s character Velma Kelly in the musical movie Chicago) with a vintage inspired, very casual, “Printemps A Paris”. This dynamic combination of flowing dressed up feathers and sporty red streetwear creates an outfit that demands the New Year come in style and be absolutely fabulous. It is this kind of bold energy we love about fashion – and love the confidence and positivity it can enhance within the wearer. Mixing high and low fashion can be so exciting, and we recommend keeping the accessories high end and classic.
Valentina is wearing a quilted, renaissance-inspired pattern jacket bringing hints of history to the modern world. She pairs that with the comfort and simplicity of minimal black leggings. The warm, wool scarf has been a favourite piece of Valentina’s this winter, and she’s not short of one for this look. This outfit is about keeping things modern and laid-back, while feeling sophisticated through subtle elements brought forward by beautiful, historical patterns.
