BABY it’s cold outside! Even in California! Winter heats up as we ward off the chill with fun statement accessories…
Oh the weather outside is frightful, but the fire is sooooo delightful…to celebrate our love of sugarplum fairies and Santa, this month is dedicated to all things merry! December reminds us of the joys of being a child – the excitement, the treats, and the adventures. Yes, we are holiday maximalists – those people who still believe in Rudolph, and love all the decor, stories, rituals, fluff and magic of xmas. As California girls, we also love the idea of a real winter with snow, but find it challenging to dress with style and creativity while remaining warm on our relatively still sunny days. So this month we are challenging ourselves to come up with playfully fun looks for all your winter needs that are both functional and interesting.
The day after Thanksgiving we decided to take a stroll around downtown Palo Alto and oogle all the decorations. We usually try and avoid all things black Friday, but happened to walk by Anthropologie and remembered we had a ton of gift buying to start doing – another challenge!
Winter is the best time to layer on statement pieces that amplify your look. Francesca has always loved hats, and what a perfect time of year to break out some items from her collection of berets! She has had a love of berets since she found a couple in her father’s closet and decided to steal them all during middle school along with a couple of Hermes ties (shopping in your parents closet is great!). The beret is the statement piece of this look – and is dedicated to Francesca’s nostalgic love of all things cliche about Paris and Parisian style icons. Forget beanies – the beret is winter’s best hat, similar to the classic essence of the trench coat and makes casual day outfits super chic. Paired with a leather jacket, high waisted skirt and Miu Miu pumps this outfit was a mix of electric artist meets European WWII spy.
Valentina just chopped her locks off by herself, and is debuting a whole new look with bangs! What is is about bangs that immediately adds something cool and sophisticated to any look? The new bangs have created a Bridget Bardot, 60s glam vibe to Valentina’s face – accentuated with swooping cat eyes thanks to Nars Eyeliner Stylo. Valentina took stripes to a whole new level, keeping color very dominant and layering warmer accessories on top of her dress. One of Valentina’s favorite memories from living in frigid London winters was to wrap up in gigantic, warm scarves. This hand knitted, wool scarf reminds her of those London days and is the ideal accessory for when days become chillier in California, and yes, it does happen!
