Our sugar cravings tend to come in fabric form and flood our minds with dress up ideas…especially at certain times of the year. Paris Couture week is one of the prime times when we love indulging our fantasy world, and guilty that can translate to spending an endless amount of time getting lost on style.com. Not only do we follow our favorite design houses, but we research everything from the creative direction to set creation to who wore what backstage and on the streets. This season we adored the contrast of feminine volume, tulle and organza integrated with a fresh take on nature at Giambattista Valli.
SUMMER 2015 TIP
Invest in a flirty mini skirt that adds movement and makes you want to dance!
Living in the Bay Area, we are far the fashion crowds of Paris but lucky to be close to the beauty of nature. Last weekend we decided to test drive our re-imagined take on the Giambattista Valli Fall 2015 Couture show at a modern beach hideaway in Santa Cruz. The minimal, urban forest of the Hotel Paradox was the perfect setting to clear our mental space and rebalance while setting the stage for play with poufs of pink.
Valentina on her look
I prioritize comfort, while maintaing a striking look that fits my current mood. I would never dream of wearing those ridiculous (but yes, beautiful) heels that Francesca prances around in. Personally, I love investing in a bold, statement sandal that is versatile enough for day and night. Sometimes sandals can also be especially uncomfortable, so make sure you test drive them at the store! My Bebe cropped jacket was so much fun to wear on this shoot – it was like wearing a piece of abstract art. I am in love with this delicate floral clutch – it gave the right amount of feminine energy and made me feel like a nymph!
Francesca on her look
I was inspired by my love of all things feminine and french – the courtesans of French history, French Fashion, and of course the beauty of the gowns at the Valli show. I love drama and intrigue, and enjoy playing on those themes for a night out. This look was so fun for me because I felt like I was from a slightly different era. It takes a certain amount of gumption to wear such a voluminous skirt, but my personality tends to blossom under the spotlight of looking unique. My creative styling recommendation is opening your mind to the many new and different ways of wearing one piece – you can get so much more out of your current wardrobe! The pink jacket acted like a blouse, slightly unzipped yet tucked into the skirt, visually creating that hard to achieve lady-lady, sexy allure – playful and teasing in a non-obvious way.
THE PLACE TO STAY – HOTEL PARADOX
We love the intimate, boutique setting of Hotel Paradox – where the modern surf culture of a hip, laid-back small-town community meets a sophisticated, eco-savvy, minimal oasis. Cool and classy but also warm and comfortable. As nature lovers, we enjoyed the elegant and tranquil setting of the urban forest interior design- from the walls of dappled forests, slate floors, organic hues, natural textures and the stunning check-in desk crafted from a fallen eucalyptus tree. And how could we not be charmed by the whimsical white life-size squirrel sculptures caught in mid-scamper on walls and bookcases? The subtly of the earthy tones and elegant touches provide an excellent getaway retreat from the hectic life of Silicon Valley, and we felt very pampered and well restored. As foodies, we particularly enjoyed dining on the farm fresh, organic, local, flavor packed menu the Solaire Restaurant offered – especially the fish tacos and buttery, mouth watering diver scallops. The executive chef, Ross McKee, visits two farmers markets weekly for produce and uses only sustainable seafood – yay!
